“Beautiful hotel. Had afternoon tea – absolutely delicious. Very pleasant, non-intrusive staff. Dinner was outstanding – presentation of each course, taste unreal. Walled Garden beautiful for a stroll, small intimate rooms. Absolutely loved our stay.”
“This country house hotel is off the beaten track and proved to be a wonderful place for a mid-week break. We arrived on a very wet day to find an open fire in the reception and a doorman to take our bags. The hotel has many nooks and crannies and the whole experience was one of relaxation. The gardens and lake views are wonderful and a long walk on country roads also allowed us to see the druid’s altar (tricky to find) and more distant lime kiln. The hotel is quirky and charming – Inglenook fireplace in the drawing room is a must on a cold day. The library is a little strange. Some first edition McGaherns and Bannevilles, next to Reader’s digest abridged novels and anthologies. The real highlight however is the Sandstone restaurant. The chef here has a real talent and an understanding of tastes and ingredients. Everything was seasonal and local, herbs and garnishes coming from the hotel garden. “
